Parliament
The English Bill of Rights and Magna Carta. These were the only two because England had limited the power of its kings and queens in two documents.
Magna Carta is one of the pillers of the British Common Law. In brief, it states that the king does not rule by a divine decree from God; but through the will of the people as expressed through his nobles (House of Lords) and selected commoners (House of Commons). The fore runner of today's Parliament.
The ideas in the Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights and Locke's Treatise may have come from the 17th and 18th century European Enlightenment.
I asked the question and I'm answering the question. Why? Because I want to help all of you who are stuck on the Magna Carta and what it is.WHAT IS THE MAGNA CARTA?The Magna Carta was also called the Magna Carta Libertatum or the Great Charter. The Magna Carta was written in Latin and the words "Magna Carta Libertatum" means the Great Charter of Freedom". As you can guess, that is why some people also call it the Great Charter.HOW WAS KING JOHN OF ENGLAND INVOLVED WITH THE MAGNA CARTA?After a lot of pressure(John was not an extremely nice man)John's Barons and Bishops created a document which they called Magna Carta(or Magna Carta Libertatum). They wanted John to sign it because it would be like signing a contract-that they would get their rights after John died. John didn't exactly agree with it but what could he do?So in June 1215, he sealed the document. For those of younger people reading this, it was kind of like a will....AND WHAT HAPPENED TO IT AFTER THAT?Well, before, as I told you, John was not the most decent man you could find so he abandoned the Magna Carta(I can hear some of you gasp back there!) and the Barons got extremely angry. In fact, a war broke out which led to John's death. He was killed on 19 October 1216.I LOOKED THIS UP ON WIKI AND IT SAID THERE WHERE SOME COPIES!Yeah...I didn't finish. Shortly after John's death, Henry III took over. He didn't like the ways of his father, thus reissued the Magna Carta in 1225. After that...who knows?GRRR!! YOU STILL HAVEN'T ANSWERED MY QUESTION!Which is...?WHAT ABOUT THE COPIES? WHERE THERE ANY COPIES?!Umm...well...yeah. I think so.HOW MANY!!?Hey, Mister "Bold-Writing-with-the-Caps-Lock-on"! I'm not exactly sure(actually I think there might be 3 around today but I'm not to sure)....SO WHAT DID THE GREAT CHARTER SAY?Hey! I don't know everything! But I know the answer to this. The Magna Carta said:John, by the Grace of God King of England, Duke of Normandy and Aquitine and...WHAT?I've just thought up an idea! The Magna Carta did not help anyone because the king signed it but did not do any of the commands that the people wrote
