Shortly after the Nazis came to power savagely beating up and sometimes killing opponents in public became more common, and the police refused to investigate or to protect or help victims. If someone was Jewish or any other religion Hitler didn't see fit, he would put them in concentration camps throughout Germany and captured German territories to be starved, tortured, or killed. The msot common method was to kill the person on the spot where the police officer(s) found the person(s) committing the act that Hitler's law saw unfit, just to let any witnesses know he isn't soft.
