because the English would of be defeated. The Normans built castles better than us
yes they did.
The Normans were the first to build motte and bailey castles. Their first castle built was at Mont Glonme on the river Loire in France, 990.
The Normans introduced the first proper castles, starting with the wooden Motte and Bailey castles to England following their victory at The Battle of Hastings in 1066.
In the time of the normans from 1066 onwards
I don't think so because I was told that the Normans created the Motte and Bailey castles. I hope it helps! (Sorry if it doesn't)
William the Conqueror from Normandy invaded Britain and became king, Normans built many motte and bailey castles as well as the infamous Tower of London. The were originally from Normandy, the area just before Brittany, the panhandle on the northern coast, and im sure they built castles there.

Motte and bailey castles were built on the highest ground in the area which meant they could see many miles away to see if anyone was coming to attack When the normans started building stone castles (called keeps) they built the wall up to 2-5 meters thick.
Motte and Bailey castles were needed because the Normans wanted to keep an eye on the village and the make sure they didn't rebel against the king. Motte and bailey castles were very easy to burn down and rotted easily with water.
The Normans built Motte and bailey castles all over England to show that they are ruling and to show their powerthey built them to keep an eye on soldiers coming to attack and defend the vvillages.
Not all of theMotte and Bailey castles were replaced, in fact, most of them weren't replaced but were left to rot. The Motte and Bailey castles that did get replaced were done so by Stone Keep castles (Stone castles). These castles were made out of stone (unsurprisingly) but the Motte and Bailey castles were made out of wood. The reasons that some of the Motte and Bailey castles got replaced were that they weren't very strong, they rot within a few years and that they burn easily. The Stone Keep castles were the complete opposite of this.
