How did the Romans teach math?

They used letters instead of the numbers that we use today and these letters had the following values:-

M=1000, D=500, C=100, L=50, X=10, V=5 and I=1

5*I=V, 2*V=X, 5*X=L, 2*L=C, 5*C=D and 2*D=M
