∙ 14y agoThe Romans used them for decoration on floors, walls, and ceilings. I was in a ancient Roman villa in Sicily where every floor in the 65 rooms and hallways were mosaic. In the Vatican, today, all of the "paintings" in St. Peters are mosaic. Mosaic art is still being produced but it is fading out because the people who do it are dying. The ancient Romans also used mosaic art in jewelry and today that art also still exists. Many Roman tombs were also decorated with mosaic showing the picture of the person who died or activities they enjoyed.
