How did the Russians beat the Napoleon's grand army?

Largely they used stalling tactics (e.g. multiple layers of defense falling back as each was overcome, scorched earth to deny access to food crops) and waited for their harsh winter to destroy the army. This was the same thing they did with the Nazis in WW2.
