Britain set up the first radar system on the south coast of England where they also set up spotter groups to identify activity across the channel. They developed "Big Wing" Through commander Mallory of the RAF which was a strategic set of defence air fights based around the country that could be called on to meet at specific locations and take on German bombers (this was the battle of Britain). The Home Guard was formed and contrary to popular belief these were quite well trained men who were taught a vast range of sabotage techniques in the even of invasion. Coastal areas were armed with large gun emplacements many were actually wooden structures which the Germans though were really heavy artillery. In the channel itself it was fully mined at a range of depths which was found to have been very effective when in 2009 2 Uboats were found on the sea bed.

Liverpool (UK) merchants financially helped the south. And the south had a consular office in Liverpool during the civil war.
The UK had to be somewhat "kind" (nice) to the US during that time frame, as the US was a major power with US military forces stationed in the UK and Germany during the cold war. So it was a good idea to retain proper attitudes towards one another during those times. But, the Britain (UK) did believe the US should get out of Vietnam. Australia & New Zealand, on the other hand, lived in the sphere of Vietnam, thus they felt abit different about the war. Britain wanted full concentration in Europe (NATO) during the cold war; just as in WWII...Britain did not like...(or feared) the US would concentrate too much on Japan and not Germany (thus endangering the UK..."Britain stands alone..." etc.). Consequently, any actions deverting the US from the UK was felt strongly against.
