What happens at the end of the fruit basket series?

The spell is broken and everyone is happy. Akito confesses she is a woman, and that her mother forced her to grow up as a man because she didn't believe a woman should be the head of the family (only Ayame, Shigure, and Hatori already knew. And Kureno, who told Tohru before everyone else). Kyo tells Tohru his part in her mother's death, And Tohru confesses her love for him. She makes friends with Akito, but then falls off a cliff, Kyo kisses her while she is unconscious, and when she comes out of the hospital, they kiss. Yuki tells Tohru that he always thought of her as a mother figure, and that everybody loves her. Later on, Kyo and Tohru move far away to a dojo, so later Kyo can inherit his Master's dojo, at the end it shows them when they are older together, and they have a granddaughter. They get married obviously, it just doesn't show. I think they have a son, in the middle of 23, it shows Kyo with a son looking just like him "Kyo will make a great father", and a woman they show in the end is probably his wife. Everyone graduates from High School. And Yuki also gets a girlfriend, Machi, and he gives her the key to his new apartment. Everyone gets coupled up except for Kagura and Momiji (who really liked Tohru as in girlfriend-like)

It is also said that Yuki and Machi may have had a daughter and married Kyo and Tohru's son, but I'm not totally sure, I just saw someone said supposedly, but the author didn't really say. But Tohru and Kyo did have a son it showed a bit into the future.

Well first off, if you mean the end of the anime, Kyo changes into his true form, a scary monster who smells disgustingly of burnt flesh. This happens, because of his black and white bracelet was taken off. When the black and white bracelet Kyo wears, the same as all the cursed zodiac cats before him, is taken off in the rain, he turns into this monster. Tohru then runs after him when she sees him and tells him how she truly feels. That she wants him to continue living with them, and eating meals together, and talking together. Then as the rain stops, he changes back (oh yeah he has his pants on the whole time even as a monster) and tells her thank you and stuff about how his mom never felt that way and so on. Then he dramatically hugs her and Tohru carries him in his cat form all the way back to Shigure's house. What happens here, is what happens at the beginning of the Fruits Basket manga 6. That's where the anime stops.

If you mean in the manga, the curse is broken and everyone becomes free. Akito looses her grip on all of them. Akito confesses that she is a woman, and her mother raised her as a man, because she didn't think a girl should be the head of the family. She has all the zodiac animals, including Kyo, for a little banquet sorta thing, and tells them she is a woman and that they are all free and can do what they want. Tohru ends up falling in love with Kyo, so she tells him how she feels and he tells her that he once knew Tohru's mother. He said he saw her, and would've pulled her out of the way when he saw the car coming, but he would transform. And, Tohru's mom ended up dieing. He felt so bad, that's when he moved up to the mountains for 4 months. And when Tohru tells him she loves him, he says he's disillusioned. Later on, Tohru accidently falls off a clift, when she was making friends with Akito, and when Kyo finds her, he kisses her, but she was unconscious. When she gets out of the hospital, Kyo tells her he's sorry and he was only thinking about his regrets. He tells them that they are meant to be and he loves her. Then, he kisses her. That's when they start going out. Yuki also finds his match, a girl named Machi. She's a different sort of girl, but yes, they do kiss. They all end up graduate, and Yuki gives Machi his new apartment key. Shigure also finds his love. And it's Akito! Yuki, has always seen Tohru as a mother figure and he finally tells her that. Momiji, also loved Tohru, but not as a sister, so he was a bit mad when he figured out she was with Kyo. And yes, Kagura is a bit mad as well but she falls out of love with Kyo. Momiji and Kagura are the only two that end up with no match.The matches are... : Hatori and Mayu, Hatsuharu and Rin, Kureno and Uo, Ayaame and Mine, Kisa and Hiro,Ritsu and Shigure's editor, and it doesn't exactly say they're together, but Hanajima and Shishou. Kyo finds a dojo out somewhere far away, and he askes Tohru to come with them. It doesn't actually say so but Tohru and Kyo pretty much marry. So, they leave and that's at the end. Then it skips ahead, and it looks as if they're back at Shigure's house (he ended up moving in with Akito). Type in: What happens in the end of fruits basket? on wiki.answers.com, and she will tell you who she thinks everyone is in the end. For me, I'm not too sure, but a little girl askes a woman where Kyo and Tohru is, and she says ''That's grandma and grandpa to you missy" so I'm not sure who everyone is. I'm a bit confused. Some say that Tohru and Kyo are older (it only shows the back of them but the woman says "They're out for a walk leave the love birds alone" (or something of that sort) so that's how you know its them) and that the woman might be their daughter and the little girl could be their granddaughter. Though I'm not sure. Then the last picture shows Kyo's beads (Tohru had collected them) and a picture of Tohru's parents and her as a kid and some pictures and flowers and stuff. At the end of the "Fruits Basket" series, Tohru helps the Sohma family break the curse that has plagued them for generations. The curse is lifted, and the members of the family are freed from their bonds. Tohru and her friends find happiness and closure in their relationships and move forward with hope for the future.

For the anime series Tohru saves Kyo from becoming an even worst beast. They kind of hug ( SO CUTE ). Then she gets attacked by Akito, (dont worry Yuki and Shigure hold him down). And after that, it ends with Kyo Tohru and Yuki holding hands.

For the manga series Tohru ends up with Kyo (They kiss 2 times, SO CUTE) to my understandings they get married ( not sure ). And the rest of the family splits up.

Now I'm not sure if you mean the anime or manga, but the mangas a whole lot better (especially after everything that doesn't happen in the anime and when Natsuki Takayas art style changes) What happens in episode 26, is what happens in volume 6, and then the anime adds some stuff that happens throughout volume 8, but nothing really happens at the end of the anime except for Kyo going into his true form, and Tohru running after him....all that, but I'm going to tell you what happens in the end of the manga:

Kyo Tohru and Yuki graduate from High School

Yuki and Machi (girl from student council) end up together

Yuki moves to his own apartment and goes to college and gives Machi his key

The curses all are broken

Akito is really a woman

Tohru confesses her love for Kyo

He tells her his role in her mothers' death

Some stuff happens and later Kyo confesses his love for Tohru

Kyo and Tohru end up together and kiss twice

Kyo and Tohru move off far away to some dojo in the very end

A small "fill in the space sketch" shows Kyo and their son, and Natsuki Takaya saying he'll make a great father

Then next page fill in the blank sketch shows Tohru's part of the picture

And all the characters sorta couple off except for Momiji and Kagura
