There were no successful tactics that helped end the war, which includes gassing, and tanks. Germany realized it could not win the war when millions of fresh American soldiers were arriving in France. German forces were spent and there were no new reserves available.

Well, I dont know exactly how they did it, but I know that the Tanks ended the trench warfare because they could easily cross "No-Man's Land".
