How did the different sections in antebellum America depend on each other?

One aspect of the struggles between the North and the South in the antebellum nation was in part keeping the peace between the two sections. The industrial North needed the cotton produced in the South. This helped in a small way of business relationships within the US to depend on each other. Cotton was needed by Northern textile mills, and industrial products produced in the North were needed by the South. This internal trading relationship should have kept the peace. Nothing, it is sometimes said is more important than money. In its own way, this helped to extend time and prevent an "early" civil war.
