The Enabling Act took the Reichstag's legislative powers and gave them to Hitler himself. The law essentially ended the Weimar Republic and made Hitler the dictator of the new Nazi "Third Reich". Hitler had a few more things to go through to attain absolute power (like Gleichschaltung, the Night of the Long Knives, and the death of President Hindenburg), but the Enabling Act was the first major step on that road.
