Jamestown was settled to make a profit. Massachusetts was founded to ensure religious freedom for Puritans... and only puritans.
Jamestown didn't come to Virginia to settle to look for gold and not to stay as a colony while the Puritans were there to stay and to create a colony.
um... Mr. Ristys class?
The Puritans wanted to reform the Anglican church the Pilgrims wanted to make their own churches. Hope I helped yah ;)
The Mayflower Compact was the Pilgrim's own form of government. A charter is a grant of authority (permission) from the king that they, the colonists, are allowed to start a colony.

William Penn was more respectful of the Native Americans in some ways.
The Jamestown colonies were founded for the sole purpose of mirroring the success that the Spanish have seen from such explorers as Christopher Columbus and Hernan Cortes. Their motives were purely to gain profit. The Massachusetts Bay Colony was never interested in money. Their goal was to create a religious Utopia that would shine back on the old Catholic church in England and show them that their take on religion is correct after all. John Winthrop's "Model of christian charity" states their exact mission. This full heartily explains why the puritans are so strict. They will not allow anyone to jeopardize the mission because it will ruin the colony's Utopia appearance. hope this helps

The Puritans controlled Massachusetts and religious toleration was practiced in Rhode Island.
The people in Jamestown were more interested in finding gold and silver rather than spreading religion and growing crops while the Massachusetts Bay coloney was focused on spreading religion.

The settling of the Jamestown colony in 1607 was based on financial goals, not religious, despite whatever role religious convictions played in the colony's growth and daily life. For the Massachusetts Bay colony, religious expression was the core motivation of the colonists involved, with trade activity and resource-development, also important factors. Two religious groups from England both came to the New World. The Pilgrims came to escape religious persecution. Their soon to be neighbors, the Puritans came to practice what they believed to be the "pure" Protestant religion in England the Anglican Church.
