The Great Compromise settled the method of representation in the legislative branch (the US Congress). Small states wanted equal representation (equality by state), and large states wanted representation based on population (equality by vote).
Under the compromise, all states were represented equally in the Senate. This made the smaller states happy. In the House of Representatives, representation was based on population. This pleased the bigger states.

Great Compromise
equal representation
The Great Compromise addressed the contentious issue of representation by creating a bicameral legislature, combining elements favorable to both small and large states. In the Senate, each state, regardless of size, receives equal representation with two senators, satisfying smaller states. Conversely, the House of Representatives allocates seats based on population, addressing the concerns of larger states. This compromise balanced the interests of both groups, enabling a functional legislative framework.
Roger Sherman created the Great Compromise! :)
Roger Sherman of Connecticut worked out a compromise that he hoped would satistfy both small and large states.
The Great Compromise allowed the framers of the Constitution to create a Congress that would represent both large and small states fairly. It is also known as the Connecticut Compromise.
The main focus of the Great Compromise at the Constitutional Convention concerned how states were to be represented in the U.S. Congress. It is also referred to as Sherman's Compromise.
