I'm not quite sure, but I believe he was born that way.
Eabminime:Some people say that it was born that way, but i think that in the book it says that some one threw some kinda liquid that burned his face.
Here's a few: * Mark Cohen ~ RENT * Jack ~ Into the Woods (although he isn't exactly old) * Phantom ~ Phantom of the Opera (although he disappears, I don't believe he dies) * All of the guys in shows like Spelling Bee, Footloose, Guys and Dolls, Grease, A Chorus Line, etc. that don't have any character deaths.
Popular musicals are 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Les Miserables', 'Hairspray', 'Wicked', 'Guys and Dolls', 'Oliver!', 'Chicago' and MANY more. Frankly, I am slightly shocked you don't know a couple at least... Some of the best are: Music of the Night - Phantom of the Opera 'On my Own' - Les Miserables 'Good Morning Baltimore' - Hairspray 'Defying Gravity' - Wicked 'If I Were I Bell' - Guys and Dolls 'As Long as He Needs Me' - Oliver 'All That Jazz' - Chicago
The real reason by Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera, Christine removes the Phantom's Mask the second time, is show his real face that he is hiding behind and to scare the audiences. She loves him for who he is and not the mask he wears. That's totally up to the person watching the show... Some say it was the only way to get the Phantom's attention to the guys with the guns so he wouldn't get shot, others say it was because it was the only way for Christine to not get carried away by the passion and go with the Phantom, and others say that she was letting the police know it was him so they could shoot him. The reason is up to you. It depends on how you think of Christine and the relationship between her and the Phantom. It can be whatever you think.
"Guys and Dolls" was based on stories written by Damon Runyon. It is unlikely that Runyon was attempting to copy Brecht (who based "Threepenny Opera" on John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera", which was first performed in 1728).
Only attractive guys.
