In many cases especially at the end of the 17th Century and proceeding onwards, industrialization took over the production of the works of craftsmen. Factories made many products less expensive. Not all of the work done by craftsmen could be duplicated in a factory, however, and the craft trades were still a place for customized products and even the less skilled work of blacksmiths in towns quite a distance from factories.
