The M4 was made to fire 5.56mm which allowed the military to keep using the same rounds as the M16. However, the M4 was made shorter and lighter to allow for close quarters combat while providing the right amount of firepower. This was requested by SOCOM units as most of their operations involve CQB. It was also given a telescopic stock to allow the user to adjust it for their stature. The A1 variant allows for full auto firing, unlike the regular M4 which only has semi-auto and 3-round burst.
Most military-based civilian assault rifles go for around $1,000 to $2,000 USD. It depends on where you're looking for an M4A1.
Yes it is used by all American military peersonnel.

An M4A1 has semi and full auto capabilities, the M4 has semi and three shot burst capability, both are used by the modern U.S. Military. An M-14 is an infantry rifle used in Vietnam and Korea.

The maximum effective range of the M4A1 rifle is approximately 500 meters for point targets and up to 600 meters for area targets. This range is influenced by factors such as ammunition type, environmental conditions, and the shooter's proficiency. The M4A1 is designed for versatility and accuracy in various combat situations, making it a reliable choice for military applications.

They're both almost equal in quality (fps, material, accuracy) but if you want government issue style airsoft AEG, you can go with M4A1. They're wider in use. You can reenact as SWAT, US Military (all elements including Special Forces), and also PMCs (Private Military Contractor). M4S-System is definitely looks cooler. It looks hefty. The only problem is that in the real world M4S-System is actually M4A1 that use A.R.M.S. SIR (Selective Integrated Rail) System (perhaps A5 model). M4A1 combined with A.R.M.S. SIR widely used by civilans, and also gains it popularity among PMCs. It also have limited use in law enforcement (SWAT). But recent news shows that A.R.M.S. SIR is being use with REC7 (formerly known as the M468), an upgrade to the M16/M4. The REC7 is manufactured by Barrett Firearms Company. REC7 is now entering the service in US Military. I also hear that M4A1 with A.R.M.S SIR is also being used by 1st SFOD-D (Delta Force). So which one will you choose? It's up to you. I hope this answer can help.
it depends if its for a certain job or just all purpose, THE american M4A1 is the best military rifle, whilst the others include AK47, ACR.
Unlike the rest of the British military (who use the SA80) the most common assualt rifle for the SAS is the M4a1 carbine. During the 1990's they used the M16
The barrel length of the M4A1 carbine is 14.5 inches. Legally, it would be considered a short-barreled rifle by the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives).
