Yes many Cherokee Indians were killed after refusing to give up their land to the builders of the transcontinental. they had to move away and they had to fight for their lives.:(
free land sections on alternating sides of the track (which the government didn't actually own to give away).
White Americans justified the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad with the concept of Manifest Destiny. They believed that the United States was meant to control as much land as possible. To accomplish this, the country must first stretch "from sea to shining sea." A railroad that spanned the entire nation would help to achieve this goal. However, to get the land for a railroad, Native American rights to territory had to be taken away as quickly as possibly to make way for construction.
Simple. The railroads allowed for traveling farther faster and delivering needed goods as well. People could live further away but have supplies brought by train.
during ww1 many africans were running away from Indian slave owners...
they didn't "build" mount rushmore, they blew away rock from a mountain with dynamite
