Since there is so much evidence gathered by the detectives and Diane Lane's character has been caught in so many lies when being questioned. Richard Gere's Character is in front of the Police Station ready to turn himself in. There is banter between husband and wife about disappearing and going to Mexico but it is done in a light way and not at all serious. Probably nervous about the big step he is going to make with going to jail.
