Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone had both short term and long term effects on the industrial revolution. Prior to the telephone fast communications were done by telegraph. The telephone created almost instant person to person communications. This fostered better communications to a company's faraway offices and its factories. The telephone itself created its own revolution as better ways to improve the initial inventions were an industry within itself. As more and more phone lines were created, and more and more phones became available to the public, the flow of trade and business improved dramatically.
