The reason's the the Titanic sunk are many and varied. She was travelling at high speedin order to win a coveted crossing Robbin at the time .

Despite warnings of ice in the region from other vestals she maintained her relatively high speed sighting the iceberg which the ship struck seconds later ,the crew had try ed to avoid a collision, this meant that when the titanic struck this iceberg side on and this coupled with the speed of collision resulted in a 100ft gash or slice in the side of the vestal.

The Titanic was designed at the time with water proof compartments the length of the ship, the collision ruptured three of these apartments . Given the limitations of the design the ship could stay afloat if any two of these apartments where ruptured, but given that three where breached during the collision, from the moment of impact the Titanic was always going to sink ,it was only a matter of time.
