This is what happened to the two Security Guards at the school where Rick and Shane were going to drop Randy off in the first place, as well as what happened to Shane last night when Rick stabbed him in the heart. In this new chapter of the series it is a nod to George A. Romero's zombie films wherein people became Zombies when they died, once again, for any reason so long as the brain isn't damaged and reanimation can occur. Getting bitten in this context will simply turn you into a zombie all the quicker, but all people inevitably become one. That is in the end the biggest tragic irony of both of the stories since no matter how long you stay alive, no matter how long you starve and live in paranoia of not only the dead but also the living, and no matter how many you take out...you're going to become one!

∙ 12y agoThe people still alive are partially immune to the zombie virus. Everyone has the zombie virus in them, but it is dormant until they die.

WHAT IF:
1. To make Shane's death seem believable to the rest of the group Rick could have infected him with his walker tainted knife?
2. Randy could have been scratched by a walker and when Daryl and Glenn found him (in the dark) could they have not saw it? There was also water (i believe)by where Randy was killed - It could have possibly been contaminated?
3. Airborne: But then why would the scientist let them in if it had been before? His lab had air contaminant detox "spray".
4. Shane was infected by Rick's knife... but that doesn't explain Randy AND why they were not even a mile or so from the farm house. When Rick stabbed Shane (great silhouette filming by the way) in the open field... With nothing around.... HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET THERE? huh? explain that. Somethings fishy with Rick. He's been holding back...and he finally snapped.

∙ 11y agoIm pretty sure the virus is airborne and either kicks in once you die or they are already infected and when they die the virus speeds up and turns them.
At the end of season 2 when they were all sitting there listening to Rick, He told them that in the cmc or what ever it was, that he was told everyone is infected. And Shane just coming back as a walker confirmed what he feared was true.
