The US had to replace their Navy, build up their armed forces and build new planes. They overcame these obstacles by changing many peace time manufacturing places into war plants. They hired millions of men, women and even the blacks to build what they needed. Millions of men enlisted and others were drafted according to a specific schedule.

The US managed to get ships repaired, rebuilt and new ones built. Other boat manufacturers developed new boats that could land on beaches, do torpedo work (the PT Boats) and to land tanks and jeeps on the beaches. These new boats could also rescue wounded (reducing the casualty rates).

The auto manufacturers converted large plants to build planes and bombers and some helicopters. Other plants built the parts for planes, tanks, and vehicles.

Some plants made the uniforms, weapons, ammo, and food rations for the warriors.

The country got into full swing running 24 hours a day. Women who could not work took over caring for the children of the women workers.

They raised billions of dollars in war bonds thus relieving the tax budget.
