As a result, Paris was liberated jointly by the US and the Free French, the allied armies ran out of fuel for their vehicles before reaching the Rhine, and the war went on for months longer. As for 'saving' Paris, that was done by the Germans - at least, by the refusal of the German commandant to obey Hitler's order and burn the city to the ground.
