The good ones are weather resistant and allow for mechanical key and keypad entry. A fingerprint keypad uses your fingerprint to release the lock. Only the fingerprints programmed into the lockset will unlock it. When you scan your finger on the pad it takes an image of your fingerprint. That image is sent to the computer where it is hashed into a series of numbers. Those numbers are then compared to another set of hashed numbers that are known as being yours. If those numbers match then you are allowed entry.
