Living as a Christian should cause you to treat yourself as less important and others as more important. The Christian life should come from the acceptance that you cannot be "good enough" alone, that you are saved by God's grace, and that God gives grace to all, even those you don't necessarily like.

Christian beliefs serve as a guiding moral compass for many individuals' decisions and actions in daily life. These beliefs often influence their relationships, choices, perspectives, and values, shaping their character and behavior. Christians may find comfort, support, and purpose in their faith, leading to a sense of community and connection with others who share similar beliefs.

In theory the christian belief system would guide on into learning what is now considered a virtuous life. A basic principle is to treat others how you wish to be treated.

Now take that simple Idea and concept and run with it in to the greatest extreme you can, now you should have an idea as to the theoretical life of a christian.

The main beliefs of Christianity are to be like Jesus, to worship Him and follow Him only, to lead others to Jesus and to love Him. I am a Christian and since Jesus says to be like Him, we Christians try to be good and not judge others when we see them, love our enemies, and mostly, love our Savior Jesus Christ. Worshiping and following Him affects our life so that we learn to love Him because He first loved us. We also try to take the gospel to others, but we try not to be forceful.

It varies based on the exact faith and the exact believer. However, here are some of the general trends:

1. It sets boundaries and limits on behavior. You would act differently if you thought some deity were looking over your shoulder. Plus, if there is a personal relationship with the creator, one just wouldn't feel like doing certain things, since there is a guiding, teaching presence.

2. It gives a sense of hope and peace. Quite a few people are alive today because of religion or at least a personal faith in their lives. They don't have to feel that things are over and hopeless.

3. It colors your views about culture and what is right and wrong. That is mostly good, but there is a dark side to this element if it leads to discrimination or violence. It is natural to want to be around others who are like you, but it is a true test of religion to be able to reach outside of one's own comfort zone. The New Testament teaches that a test of true religion is to be able to help the widows and orphans and still remain without blame. So the goal is to be in the world and be an influence, without turning hateful and without becoming like the world and absorbing its values.

4. To a certain extent, it can transform lives. While Alcoholics Anonymous is not a religion, it has a number of spiritual principles built in, such as looking at yourself for who you are, making restitution, and helping others who share the same struggle.

5. It can give you a sense of belonging and purpose. So many people are in despair because they have no sense of purpose in life, or they feel they are not a part of anything beyond themselves.

Some find a better understanding of life, but religion affects people differently. Some become more understanding and loving, but some become self-righteous and less loving (even though many would not view themselves that way). Religion can, and often does, have a positive effect on people's lives, but at times it has a negative effect. It just depends on the religion, what it teaches, how an individual reacts to it, and other factors.
