There are lots of ways a Christian church can show love to their local area and community.
One of the best ways is to participate in community events as a congregation, especially service and clean-up projects. If there are none, organize a few yourself and invite the community to come along.
Many churches are also beginning to host Emergency Preparedness days for the local community, combining with other congregations as well as local fire, police, and charity organizations. Be sure to advertise through flyers and by putting an ad in the local paper.
With the holidays coming up, you could host a free concert or carol sing-in at your church. You could also deliver small Christmas gifts (such as a CD of carols or treats) to those who live near your church and have a nice card wishing them a good season and inviting them to a Christmas Eve service or Holiday concert. (This is a great projects for Youth or Sunday School groups)
