Take the drain plug out of the oil pan.
Take the oil filter off.
Put drain plug back in.
Replace the oil filter (make sure to put a little bit of oil around the rubber ring of the oil filter).
Put new oil in the valve cover (top of engine).
If I'm not mistaken you have to get underneath to change it. Should be a cap underneath it.

The oil pump on a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo is changed by draining the motor oil, removing the oil pan, and unbolting the oil pump. A new pump can then bolted in place, pan re-installed, and the oil refilled.
