If you're using Windows XP Pro. you start by right-clicking My Computer. Then, click Properties => Computer Name => Change. Change the Member of... from the domain name to WORKGROUP or something like that.
** Make sure you write down the name of the domain, so you won't forget it.
** Also, make sure you have a login name that is a localadministrator.
Reboot the PC and then start the process above again.
** You'll need a domain administrator name and password in order to rejoin the domain.

You will be prompted for the password for the account you used and 2 seconds later the job is done. You do not need to reboot just log off your local admin and carry on. Your machine password will have been reset and trust restored.
