How do you get away from your abusive husband and take your children with you to get support if you are an illegal alien?
As a mother your children should come first as far as safety from an abusive mate even though you are an illegal alien. There are Abused Women's Shelters in your area. Phone your telephone operator for the phone number. Once you have the number then call a counselor and discuss your problem. Abused Women's Shelters are there to protect women and their children. An appointment will be set up and they are well aware that it may be difficult for you to get away from your mate. Choose a time when your mate is at work and pack your bags and take the children to the Abused Women's Shelter. They will have someone else play with your children while a counselor asks you questions. Then they will eventually send you to a Transition House (no one, but the counselor knows where you are. You and your children will be taken care of. The Transition House will expect you to attend programs so you can better understand you are a victim of abuse and what your rights are and that of your children. If a court case comes up a legal counselor will accompany you to the court hearing (your children will not be included.) Eventually, once you take the programs they give you (tools to learn so you never get into another abusive relationship again); you will be helped to relocate (somewhere else for you and your children to live) and help you find a job. Even though you are an illegal alien their lawyers may find a way around your situation. The Abused Women's Shelters are a haven to protect those women who are subjected to verbal and physical abuse. For the sake of your children risk taking yourself and your children to a Woman's Abuse Center. Be very careful and delete anything on your computer that suggests you planning to leave your abusive mate as they may check out what you are doing on the Internet. Delete all!
Why should women get out of abusive relationships?
Women should get out of an abusive relationship because it may escalate from emotional abuse to physical or sexual abuse, sometimes even murder. No one deserves to be abused and to stay in an abusive relationship is not worth it. If you are being abused, please leave and find help, especially if you have children, you need to protect them too.

Can Women stay in an abusive relationship and not know or deny their kids are being abused?
Yes there have been lots of documented cases where women would deny or choose to be ignorant (knowing something is wrong but choosing not to find out) of a situation where the children are being abused. In the last case i read about this type of behavior, the mother got herself a night job while the father and grand-father abused the daughter. She knew about the abuse but decided to ignore it.

What if the women wants children but the man doesn't?
What is the best advice to give a loved one that is being abused mentally and physically?
I am assuming that your loved one is a woman, and that she is being abused by a male. In cases like this it's easy to give advice, but not easy to experience it from the woman's point of view. If you can help her see the wisdom of leaving this person, but she fears reprisal if she makes a move, there may be a solution. In my area (Rhode Island) there are shelters that are set up to help with this very situation. Staff at these shelters will actually help women move out with lightening speed at a time when the abusive person is sure not to be home. For obvious reasons these shelters are a little hard to find. She could try calling numbers listed for battered or abused women if there are such numbers listed for you area. Or she could try the police, the local Community Mental Health center, or possibly even her PCP's office. She may resist leaving because he "makes up" from time to time and apologizes. It's not likely that his behavior pattern will ever change.
What percent of prison inmates were abused?
The top result on google claims 84% of prison inmates were abused as children, but I couldn't find any reliable data to back it up. A US Department of Justice report found that 50% of female inmates and 10% of male inmates were abused sometime prior to their incarceration (it doesn't specify whether it's "as children", it just says "before incarceration").
What is her response to his threats of physical abuse?
Every woman is different and some women are terrified of the mate she is with and because the physical abuser is a master of taking the woman's self confidence away and having her believe she is useless in every aspect of her life or perhaps threatens her into believing he will take her life if she leaves him she feels trapped and does not know where to turn. Women of abuse who are afraid are not under privileged women; uneducated or weak and some women that are abused are high profile women in the public's eye or very well educated women so the myth that uneducated or poverty stricken women are the individuals that are more likely to be abused is a myth. Some women will continue to stay with their abusive partner while others will seek help to get away from him. There are other women that will fight back as best they can, but since a man is more powerful this often leads to dire straits for the woman and is risky business. There are Abused Women's Programs that victims of abuse can go too and they should plan well before going to see the counselor at an Abused Women's Facility because they cannot go back to their abuser or they will be in worse trouble. The Abused Women's Facilities protect the women and any children they may have; they will take them to a 'safe house' for protection; have the woman go to programs to learn about abusive men and how to cope on her own; they provide legal counsel in court and help find the abused individual a job. One only has to call Mental Health in their area and they will direct them to an Abused Women's Facility.

Where can one find child abuse statistics in the USA?
There are many different online sites regarding child abuse statistics in the USA. Some of them are national sites and others are state sites. Some of these sites include "safehorizon, childhelp, dreamcatchers, and everychildmatters." These statistics may tell how many people have abused children, but not necessarily how many children have been abused.
