Depends on the vehicle. Sometimes you can pull up on the glass and push the button and the motor will move just a little bit. Eventually, you will get the window up. If that doesn't work, you have to take the inside panel off. Some motors unbolt from the assembly, you take the motor off and raise the window and reinstall the motor to keep it up. This is easy for most newer cars that use a track to raise and lower the window. Older models, before the early 80's have a spring in the assembly to help raise the window. If you take the motor out on this type, you run the risk of loosing a finger. The window will raise quickly and if you are between the arms of the assembly, it is just like a pair of scissors.
If you can't take the motor out, some are made as part of the track assembly, you can remove the bolts or nuts that hold the bottom of the window to the assembly. There should be two bolts on the bottom edge of the glass, either a Phillips head or more likely a bolt with a 10 mm head. Take the bolts out and block the window up.
either your window regulator or window motor have gone bad and have to be replaced.
You have to disconnect the glass from the regulator or clip the regulator cables. Here's howhttp://www.ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/repair-topics/window-power-repair/replace-a-power-window-regulator
Your switch is bad or the window motor has gone out
Remove the inside door panel. Push the window track. Upward, until the window is completely closed. Lock the window linkage in place, so the window will not fall down.
Take door panel off, remove window from motor bracket and slide window up. Make something to hold it up out of a hanger or heavy wire til you get new motor.
you need a new belt for the motor to raise and lower the window you need a new belt for the motor to raise and lower the window
Depending what year your windstar is, it may have rivets holding the window to the motor. You have to drill them out to detach the window. I removed the motor and regulator and pulled the window up and propped it with wood until my motor came in. Now they have the motor/regulator combo aftermarket at Autozone for $69.
