Straight jeans and skinny jeans are the same design of jeans. If you don't like how you look in skinny jeans, I recommend not to wear straight jeans either. I personally hate skinny jeans on myself, but I love flares. I'm guessing those will suit you as well.
Just try it on and whatever size fits, or you can do it the hard way and measure your waist with a tape measure and go measure their selection of jeans.

Men's jeans sizes are much easier than women's. You just measure your waist and your inseam. For example, a men's 34x32 is a 34" waist and a 32" inseam.

To determine the ideal length for skinny jeans, measure the inseam from the crotch to the ankle. The jeans should hit at or slightly above the ankle bone for a flattering fit and style.
