you call a Ford dealer and give them your vin number and they will make a key if the key you have was big it has a chip in it and will cost more around 100 dollars
Contact a Ford Dealership.
A Ford dealership can replace the key using the VIN located on the dashboard, if keys are available. At present, they are for post year 2000 trucks. ( 15 Apr '10). Mine is '96!

According to my owner's manual you must contact a BMW dealer to replace the key.
you can go to the dealer and give them the VIN # and they will order you a precut key from the manufacture.
You will more than likely have to get a new ignition and key for it.
If you have and older 4 runner 2000 my Toyota will replace the engine ecu for free, but you will have to pay for keys and programing. On this model year, if you lost all of the master keys you have to replace the engine ecu, beause you cant add key if you only have a vallet key.
This must be done at the dealership. I did not have a spare and lost my only key. Key had to be special ordered. The car towed to the dealership and programmed. $400.00 for new key and keyless remote.
you HAVE to get it from the dealership, there is no way you can take it to a keymaker and get a copy because your key has a chip in it.
You may need to replace the key or the actual lock on the door. A simple option is to spray compressed air into the lock, or break cleaner. This could also be an electrical issue due to the age of the vehicle.
That is the dealers responsibility. It should be included with the purchase of the new key.
