You should contact your local government to find out the requirements on how to start your own podiatry business. Whether you want to do it alone or team-up with colleagues really depend on your preferences and the needs of your business.

Podiatrist - keeping the feet happy?

Podiatry is the medical discipline that deals with the study, diagnosis, and treatment of medical issues of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. A podiatrist is a medical doctor who has received specialized training to practice podiatry and has been certified by a medical board in the jurisdiction they plan to practice podiatry. Different countries have different requirements for individuals wishing to practice podiatry. a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. In the United States, the prospective podiatrist begins his training by attaining a four year undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. The candidate is then required to take the Medical College Admission Test. The score on this test, along with undergraduate grades and other factors, is used to compet with other prospective candidates for admission into a medical school that offers a program in podiatry medicine. The program takes a minimum of 4 years to complete; after successfully completing the podiatry medicine program the student will enter a residency program that typically lasts two years to three years. The residency program is a hands-on training that involves the resident being rotated through a variety of different areas of medicine; typically residents spend time in emergency medicine, pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, and obstetrics in addition to podiatry. The residency training is conducted in both clinical and surgical environments, and the resident podiatrists are trained by attending podiatrists. Once a podiatry resident has completed his residency, he/she must present their credentials to a certifying board in the state they have chosen to practice. Upon receiving the board’s certification, the podiatrist is given a license to practice podiatry in that state. The scope of practice that a podiatrist is allowed to practice varies from state to state based on the laws of that particular state. The biggest difference between states is the scope that a podiatrist may practice surgery. Some states allow only the practice of surgery by a podiatrist only on the foot; other states allow the practice of surgery above the foot. The demand for podiatry services is predicted to rise in the future as the population ages and there are more foot and ankle problems associated with the obesity epidemic in the United States.
