It affects others not only physically but emotionally. It scars them for life to see the one they love destroying their life. For me I left emotional scars on my family because when I drank my will to live was no longer. They saw me in the worst of times when I was in the hospital and taken away. Please get help if you are a true alcoholic its definitely not worth it.

Environmental, No one is born with scars, they all happen later in life.
Over time, scars will become less obvious. However, there is no need to remove scars if they do not impact the dog's enjoyment of life, ability to eat, breath, etc. They may be unsightly to humans, but you should not subject a dog to unnecessary treatments that don't concrete improve the dog's life. If the scars to impact life, eating, breathing, walking, etc., then talk with a vet how you can mitigate these problems.
