Ignition switch brings on all the electrics including fuel pump and spark plug power. electric motor cranks the engine. On firing stroke piston in cylinder goes up and down draws in and compresses fuel. Just before piston at highest point in cylinder, a timed spark at the spark plug ignites the fuel and forces piston to go down, which in turn causes another piston to rise on the firing stroke and so on. Once engine started the electric starter motor disengages. The four phases of a cycle of a fourstroke engine are: suck, squeeze, bang, blow; induction, compression, ignition, exhaust.
