Environmental effects of wind power have been the subject of a number of studies. A European Commission report has found wind to have the lowest external costs, comprising human health impacts, building and crop damage, global warming, loss of amenities and ecological impact, when compared to coal, oil, gas, biomass, nuclear, hydro and photovoltaic electricity generation.[2]

Energy derived from wind power consumes no fuel, no water, and emits no air pollution. A study by Lenzen and Munksgaard of the University of Sydney and the Danish Institute for Local Governmental Studies finds that the energy consumed in manufacturing and transporting the materials used to build a wind power plant is paid back within months.[3]

Electricity can harm the environment because when fossil fuels are burned, it creates carbon-dioxide which caused pollution. Most electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gases. Whenever fossil fuels are burnt they release carbon dioxide that has been stored in the fuel for millions of years. This carbon dioxide adds to the greenhouse gases in the environment that are contributing to global warming.

Most electricity in the world is generated by burning coal, oil and natural gas. All these produce carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, when they are burnt.

So the more electricity we use, the more we add to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which are contributing to global warming, assuming you believe in that concept.

Man produces roughly 0.28% of all greenhouse gases and 4.8% of CO2. Nature produces the rest according to every science source available. The warmest year on record was 1999 and the second was 1938.

If electric power has an affect on the environment or temp in general there seems to be zero measurable impact, so the above would be speculation at best.

What effects do alternative methods of producing electricity have on the environment?

There are various effects on the environment:hydro-electric dams flood large patches of river, often removing fertile land and even towns and villages. They may alter the spawning habitat for fish.tidal barrages may affect fish movements, and may cause a silt buildup.wind farms are producing complaints from neighbours for their background noise.all alternative, that is, renewable methods of producing electricity mean that less carbon dioxide is put into the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels.
