water absorbs less heat than rock or metal does. if you have a small island in the middle of the ocean, then it will get colder than a continent because it is surrounded by water. then the atmoshere around that area will all be colder than the atmoshere over a large continent.

air masses move because cold air is heavier than warm air. so if you have an area of warm air next to an area of cold air, you get this kind of movement

/ \

cold | |warm air (moves up

air -->

(moves down and

under the warm air)

Weather is caused by the interaction of air sun water which form?

Weather is caused by the interaction of air,water,and sun. This forms air masses which can soon form fronts where air moves from high pressure areas to low pressure areas.

Where do continental masses form?

Continental tropical air masses form where their name suggests: over land in regions in the tropics (up to about 25° from the equator). In North America, this occurs in northern Mexico. The air masses are characterized by clear skies and negligible rainfall. If one moves northeast into the Great Plains and stagnates, a severe drought can result.

Why is the US not a great place for air masses to form?

The US is not a great place for air masses to form because it is surrounded by oceans on three sides, which limits the development of continental air masses. In addition, the complex topography and variability of the climate in the US make it difficult for stable air masses to form and persist over large areas.
