Trees 'breathe' in carbon di oxide and produce oxygen. Humans live on oxygen. The also grow food for both us and other animals that we can eat. We need healthy animals to both eat and work for us (farm dogs ect.)

Trees need carbon dioxide (what we exhale) and they then turn it in to oxygen (what we need to breathe in). So its like a cycle. If the trees are cut down, no oxygen will be produced, therefore we would die as well. If all the humans died, then the trees would not have as much carbon dioxide and so won't produce as much oxygen. i don't know why i put it like that but it is like a never ending cycle.
