Best Answer

Arteries do have muscles that make them dilate or constrict when propelling blood. Most of the arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart to different body parts. However, pulmonary artery, the only artery that carries unoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation.

Which blood vessels supply blood to the heart muscle?

The heart muscle is supplied with oxygenated blood by the coronary arteries. Along with the oxygenated blood, the arteries also supplies the heart muscle with nutrient-filled blood.

What is a circluatory system?

A circulatory system is a system that circulates something, around and around and around. The system of veins and arteries in our bodies is a circulatory system. The blood is pumped by the heart along the arteries to various parts of our bodies. The blood delivers nutrients to the various organs, muscles, tissues of our body. The blood is then returned to the heart along the veins. The heart pumps the used blood to the lungs where it is oxygenated and pumped along the arteries again.

Why is the blood pressure higher in the arteries?

The heart pumps the blood through the arteries, causing the arteries to be under pressure. The veins are under very little pressure as they are the vessels that collect the deoxygenated blood on it's way back to the heart. The venous blood is helped along by the movement of the muscles in the body as the body moves.

Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart are?

Arteries.

Do veins have thick elastic walls?

No, arteries have thicker walls because blood pumps through the arteries around the body, therefore blood pumps through arteries which a high pressure so thick walls are needed. Blood goes through veins with a lower pressure as they lead back to the heart to be oxygenated.

What are tubes that carry blood around the body?

These tubes (along with the heart) are known as the circulatory system, and they come in three varieties: arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries carry blood away from the heart, veins carry blood back to the heart, and capillaries are smaller diameter tubes connecting arteries and veins, through which blood interacts with tissues of the body.

How are the arteries carrying blood to the lungs different from the other arteries?

The arteries carrying blood to the lungs contain deoxygenated blood. In contrast, other arteries carry oxygen-rich blood.
