They use a vehicle with a heavily heat insulated underside. The heat shield protects them from the intense heat generated from the friction of passing through the atmosphere, which also acts as a brake.

Further down they rely on more traditional aerodynamic features. The Space Shuttle used wings, and landed as a (very poor) aircraft, other craft use parachutes for the final descent.
