They sleep during the day, usually in dark caves or caverns, hanging upside down with wings tucked in. Some may roost in darkened corners of barns or old buildings or even in dark attics in people's homes. When night comes they fly out (sometimes blackening the sky there are so many) to feed. They will eat fruit, insects and some drink blood.
