It varies a bit from seed to seed, but with most types of seed the bird will move it around in his mouth to get the husk off, and then swallow it whole. It goes into the gizzard from there and gets ground up into pulp by the grit and gravel in the gizzard.

∙ 11y agoSome plants use ants, the seeds are very light and has a substance that will attract the ants. As the ants carry the seeds back to the nest, some of them will drop onto the ground on the way.
Some plants use other animals such as dogs. The seeds have hooks on them, so when the dog runs by, the seed will cling on to the dog's fur and drop off later
