Cheetahs stay with and care for their young until they are 2 years old and can defend themselves.
Cheetah's litter size can vary from 1 to 8 cubs. But on average they have 3 cubs, but fewer than 1/3 survive to adulthood. The cubs are born- weight: 8-11 oz, and blind, they can be up to 12" long. They open their eyes between 2-11 days. Mothers raise the cubs, they hide them in bushes or in dense grass with hiding place changed every few days. At about 5-6 weeks old the cubs begin to follow the mother around and eat the prey that mother cathces for them. They are weaned at 3-6 months old. The cubs are ready to leave the mother at 15-17 months after learning to hunt.

Cubs are usually reared in hidden areas like bushes and small caves. The cubs lay hidden and don't make any sound when their mother is out hunting. The mother cheetah frequently moves its young ones to ensure that other large predators like lions or hyenas don't pick up the scent of young ones and kill them.

In spite of all the effort from the mother, nearly 70% or more cubs get killed in the first year.
How Cheetahs generally work is this: Males mate with the female, and after babies are born, the female is left to raise the kids, while the male goes off with one or two other male cheetahs *usually brothers* and hunt together for life.

Mother Cheetahs always make sure their cubs are close to them, because between lions, hyenas and other predators that would kill Cheetahs so they have less competition for prey, they need to stay on guard at all times. When mother Cheetahs spot potentially dangerous animals that shouldn't be messed with, she gives a low growl and crouches, slowly backing away. This lets the cubs know that they need to back off, stay still, and get away quietly with her. If this tactic fails, and a lion or other predator spots them, the mother will usually confront it, growl, crouch and act fierce, and try to hold off the animal so the cubs can get away to safety. At that point the mother would either fight or flight from the animal.

Early in life, Cheetah cubs do a lot of mock fighting and Wrestling with their siblings. This helps to condition their muscles and allows them to practice skills that they'll later need for successful hunting, such as pouncing, chasing and biting.

They hide in the grass when their mother leaves to hunt. Their fuzzy baby fur helps to camouflage them since it resembles tall grass. They lose this fuzz as they mature.

As they get older, they'll begin observing their mother as she hunts and imitating her. Mother Cheetahs will bring their cubs easy prey, such as baby Gazelle, so that they can chase them. As time goes on, they will accompany their mother on hunts.

They leave their mother at between one and two years or age.

Cheetahs are cats and cats are mammals. Mother cheetahs give their babies milk until they are old enough to eat meat, when the mother will share the animals she kills with the babies. They also protect the babies from predators and lick the babies to clean them.
