For instance, if the measure of chlorides in the feedwater sample is 5 ppm and the chlorides in the boiler water sample is 50 ppm then the boiler water has been cycled ten times, 50/5 =10. That means that all of the water in the boiler (plus all the water that has been blown down) has been evaporated completely ten times, and replaced by the same amount of feedwater.
