Difference between convex and concave lenses?
The difference between concave and convex is that convex lenses are the type of lens that make images bigger, while concave make images smaller. Still confused, maybe this will help. When you think of concave think of a cave, how you can see a small image at the end of the cave, while convex is the opposite.

How do concave lenses and convex lenses help improve vision?
If you are farsighted, meaning that you can see far but you can't see objects close up, that means your eye is too short in terms of the distance of your retina to your lens. The image focuses behind the retina, so it becomes blurry. When you add a convex lens, it will help bend the light more and converge the light rays onto the retina, so you will see the image clearly. If you are nearsighted, your retina is farther away from your lens, so the image is focusing in front of your retina, so you can't see distant objects. That's when you need a concave lens. Concave lens will diverge the light rays onto the retina.
What is the difference between a reflection and refraction?
REFLECTION: 1It is the phenomena in which a ray of light after striking a surface retuns back to the same medium. 2.reflection is carried out by the help of mirrors such as concave and convex mirrors. REFRACTION: 1.when a ray of light travels from one medium to another medium its speed changes and this change in speed causes refraction of light. 2.it is caused by lenses such as concace and convex lenses.

How do you make a simple telescope?
You can assemble a simple telescope by using two lenses, one weak convex lens (this is thicker at the centre) as the objective and a stronger concave lens ( thinner at the centre) as the eyepiece. then, with simple manipulation you can determine the focal length of your lenses, double this calculation for length of tubing required to mount lenses and assemble a gallilean style telescope. ******* An online visual guide can help you understand what is involved in building a telescope.

When were the first reading glasses made?
There is really no distinction to be made between reading glasses used to treat presbyopia and eyeglasses used to treat hyperopia (farsightedness). Both conditions require convex lenses, and convex lenses were the first lenses to be invented. Anyway, it seems they were used around 5 BC, but not so much as eyeglasses. The first eye correction used was in the form of small globes filled with water, while royalty used precious stones to help them see. More practical eyeglasses didn't appear until the 1200's in Italy. Bifocals were invented sometime in the 1700's, and Benjamin Franklin in the US was one of the inventors.
