The female usually chooses a secluded place that's close enough to water for her to hunt, but far enough away so as not to get water-logged. She digs a hole, and deposits her eggs in before covering them over with the earth she dug out. She will guard her nest site fiercely, and when the babies start hatching, she'll dig them out of the soft earth before carrying them to the water in her mouth.
