Divination and Magic are ways in which the individual excerts influence and control over his/her own destiny or life.

Most (if not all religions) assume an all-knowing god (or multitude of gods/goddesses) who likes to "surprise people". Divination, in theory, takes that away from god and allows man access to the information directly.

Likewise, Magic, when performed by God (or his agents, like a prophet) is a "miracle" or "divine intervention", typically designed to increase man's dependancy on God (or the prophet). When the individual practices it, they again assert their right to control their own life.

Organized Religion puts a mediary between man and God. The occult/metaphysics/magic removes the mediary and also essentialyl makes the statement that "I'm going to do it on my own, with or without God
