well, all dog breeds originated from the wolf (amazing I know, little pomeranians' ancestors were wolves), and eventually, after years and years of breeding, the dogs that we know came about. So maybe one wolf would be bred with a smaller wolf with pointier ears, and their baby would be smaller than a normal wolf with pointier ears, yet with the hunting abilities of a normal wolf, and when that one was bred with one even smaller, the dogs just kept getting smaller and smaller, until people found them suitable for pets. So all different combinations of wolves (and years and years of breeding) can result in a wolves that are our pets today.
