they will send out the sound and once it hits the fish, the sound waves bounce back to the dolphin forming a picture for them.
Something called echo-location
All use sound navigation / echo-ranging for navigation.
dolphins ,bats, and submarines all have echo location
Well they can see. They also use echo location of sorts aswell though.
so you understand
Dolphins and bats both produce very high pitched sounds and have excellent hearing. The sounds bounce off of objects, creating a very faint echo, which is effected by the objects in the surrounding environment. Dolphins and bats hear this echo, and their brains formulate a mental image of where objects are, there shapes, their sizes, etc. Both dolphins and bats use this for navigation and to detect prey.
dolpins hear through an echo
all dolphins have one behavor it is echo location
dolphins use a spiecal method called echo location it is produced from an organ which when the dolphin sqeecks the echo bouces off objects or prey and then comes back to the dolphin which is like locating the dolphin and thats why it is called echo location.
A useful echo is echolocation, which is used by marine animals such as dolphins to locate and then hunt their prey
it moves by it's tail and uses echo location to see.
Dolphins emit high pitched ultrasonic waves that reflect off obstacles. The reflected wave reaches the dolphin and the dolphin is able to estimate the distance of the obstacle. (pulse echo detection)
