Computers are used in a wide variety of things in the movie making business. For animated movies, they do most of they work. They are used to create graphic images and animate them to move on the screen. In movies using real people, they may add some background changes. For instance: they can edit a piece of sky to make it look like it's raining. Computers can also add special effects, like louder noises, explosions, making things disappear, and much much more
While not strictly speaking computers, there were machines that had a series of film heads (like a tape recorder) and they could be used to overlap images for trick Photography ( Superman flying, that sort of thing) they were quite expensive, limited to professional studios, and rarely seen on camera row. One of the trade names is Movieola. These were used for post-production trick photography, as it were.

Visiting scientists bring computers with them, and research stations are supported with most current technologies, including computers. However, Internet connections are uncommon and expensive, making contact with people who use computers on Antarctica problematic. As well, cell towers are not located on the continent, making cell phones useful as game devices only.
